Factorial moment analysis of the modified negative binomial distribution

Abstract

The modified negative binomial distribution has been proposed as superior to the negative binomial distribution in describing pion multiplicity data derived from e+ e- annihilations at high energy. We show that in cases where both distributions produce fits with comparable values of chi-square, a factorial moment analysis can be useful in comparing the quality of the fits.
