The solubility and conductivity of lithium salts in ionic liquid mixtures

Abstract

Lithium polymer batteries promise improvement in advanced energy conversion devices. One approach to new materials has been the incorporation of ionic liquids in polymers to develop new conductive layers. We have investigated the solubility of three of the most common lithium salts used in lithium battery devices in four ionic liquids using FTIR-ATR. The solubility range of lithium salts in ionic liquids differed by several orders of magnitude. AC impedance measurements of the lithium salt/ionic liquid mixtures with relevant solubility of the lithium salt were performed to determine conductivity values and temperature-dependent conductivity plots.
